Description About Agriculture Department and Activities

Extension (Regular):

Each Assembly constituency has a Asst Director of Agriculture (R) supported by a Mandal Agriculture officer in each mandal and a Agriculture Extension officer for every 5000 acres .

Soil Testing Laboratory:

There are two soil testing laboratories in the district.

  1. Soil Testing Laboratory, Nizamabad
  2. Soil Testing Laboratory, AMC, Bodhan

Soil testing laboratory is headed by an Asst Director of Agriculture (STL) and supported by 3 Agriculture officers.

Biological Control Lab:

Biological control lab was established in Nizamabad district with an objective to produce bio agents like Trichoderma viridae, Pseudomonas for distribution under various departmental schemes on subsidy. These biological agents are promoted as alternate to the chemical insecticides and fungicides.
This Laboratory is headed by an Asst Director of Agriculture assisted by an Agriculture officer.

Farmers Training Center (FTC):

Farmers Training Center is involved in training of farmers in various aspects of agriculture including skill development of agricultural labour, transfer of latest technology to the farmers and organizing field visits and exposure visits. Farmers training center also conducts orientation training to the department officers on the schemes, their guidelines and extension techniques in implementation of the schemes.

Farmers Training Center is headed by a Deputy Director of Agriculture (FTC) supported by two Asst Directors of Agriculture and two Agriculture officers.

Services Provided by Department of Agriculture

Services provided by Department of Agriculture can be broadly classified as under

  1. Input supplying services
  2. Quality control of inputs
  3. Extension services
  4. Other activities

Input Supplying Services

Agriculture Department assesses the requirement of inputs like seed, Fertilizer, insecticides, credit requirements and makes necessary arrangements for supply of inputs. Farm implements are also supplied under Farm mechanization scheme.

Quality Control Sevices

Agriculture officers and above cadre officers are notified as Seed, Fertilizer and Insecticides inspectors as per the different G.Os and they perform the duties of Seed, Fertilizer and insecticides inspectors. The main functions are periodic inspections of the input outlets and implementation of the different provisions of the statutes.

Extension Services

  1. Agriculture department organizes demonstration of improved technologies, conducts Trainings to improve crop production and to reduce cost of cultivation.
  2. Making extensive field visits and ensure production of the crop as per the recommended package of practices.
  3. Diagnosing the pest and disease and suggest remedial measures which include forecast of outbreak of pest and disease on various crops.
  4. Based on the Government policies and existing market situations and seasonal conditions advisories are provided to the farmers on what type of crops to be cultivated.

  2. Seed Village program & Certified Seed production
  3. Farm mechanization
  4. National Food Security Mission
  5. National Mission on Oilseeds, Oil Palm.
  6. Paramparagath Krishi Vikas Yojana (Organic Farming)
  7. Area Development under NMSA
  8. General Seed Distribution
  9. Monitoring of Fertilizer distribution.

Other Activities

  1. Assessment and payment of input subsidy in case of Natural calamity
  2. Co- ordination with bankers and notified Insurance company in Crop insurance
  3. Ensuring institutional credit to the farmer
  4. Crop cutting experiment in co-ordination with Directorate of Economics and Statistics
  5. Agriculture Statistics in co-ordination with Chief Planning officer
  6. Joint Azomaish in co-ordination with Revenue and irrigation
  7. All other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Higher Authorities

Soil Health Card Scheme Under National Mission For Sustainable Agriculture

Objective:

To evaluate the fertility status, identify and reclaim the problematic soils, promote soil test based fertilizer usage, adopt balanced and integrated use of fertilizers and improve soil health.

Seed Distribution on Subsidy

Objective:

Seed, a critical determinant in increasing agriculture production and supply of quality seed is an important intervention to increase production and productivity of any crop.

Seed Village Program

Objective:

To ensure timely supply of quality certified seed of notified varieties to the farmers at affordable prices besides ensuring quick multiplication of new seed varieties in a shorter time based on crop situation.

Fertilizers

Department of Agriculture monitors the supply of Inorganic fertilizers like Urea, Complex fertilizers and MOP supplied by the Fertilizer manufacturing / importing companies. Movement of fertilizer is done after the approval of the District Level Committee on Monitoring of Fertilizer movement headed by the District Collector and consisting of District Manager, District Agriculture officer, MARKFED (nodal agency for maintaining Fertilizer buffer stock), District Co-operative officer.

Farm Mechanization

Objective: To improve efficiency of farmers by way of farm mechanization, thus, rising productivity level/net income per hectare, reducing cost of cultivation and improving product quality through use of post harvest machinery/processing methods.

Credit (Crop Loans)

Objective:

To provide timely agriculture credit to farmers at lesser interest rate.

Vaddileni Runalu and Pavala Vaddi-

Objective: To provide interest free crop loans to farmers upto Rs. 1.00 Lakh and pavala vaddi to farmers who have availed crop loan from Rs. 1.00 Lakh to Rs. 3.00 Lakhs, repaid in due date.

Crop Insurance – Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana(PMFBY)

Objectives:

  1. To provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pest and diseases.
  2. To stabilize the income of farmers to ensure their continuance in farming
  3. To encourage farmers to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practices
  4. To ensure flow of credit to the agriculture sector.

Quality Control Of Inputs-Seed, Fertilizers and Pesticides.

Objective:

To ensure the availability of quality seed, fertilizer and pesticide to the farmers by enforcing the laws. Agriculture officer is notified as Seed Inspector, Fertilizer inspector and Insecticide Inspector for his jurisdiction for enforcing the provisions of Seed Act 1966, Fertilizer Control Order 1985 and Insecticides Act 1968.

National Food Security Mission(NFSM)

Objective:

To increase production of pulses and coarse cereals through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner.

National Mission On Oil Seeds and Oil Palm(NMOOP)

Objective:

To increase production of vegetable oils sourced from oil seeds through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner.

The Components under this scheme include Water saving devices like Sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, supply of Gypsum, Micro nutrients, Plant protection chemicals, Weedicides etc under subsidy.

Rainfed Area Development Program(RAD)

Objective:

To provide agriculture based income generating opportunities and sustaining the rainfed agriculture through optimum utilization of natural resources and resources created through various interventions.

Paramparagath Krishi Vikas Yojana(PKVY):

Objective:

To achieve sustainable and eco-friendly model of chemical residue free agricultural production by promoting organic farming.

The Components Under PKVY Include

  1. Mobilisation and Formation of cluster
  2. PGS Certification and Quality control
  3. Action plan for organic farming for each cluster
  4. Integrated Manure management
  5. Custom hiring Centers
  6. Packing, labeling and branding of organic products of the cluster

Agriculture Technology Management Agency(ATMA)

Objective:

To develop an efficient, effective, demand driven, research intergraded and financially sustainable public extension systems, capacity building skill up-gradation of farmers and extension functionaries and strengthen the research farmer’s linkage.

Natural Calamities

Objective:

To provide immediate relief to the affected farmers whose crops are damaged >33%, due to any natural calamity and prepare of contingency plan for alternate crop under adverse seasonal conditions.
Mandal level team consisting of Tahsildar and Agriculture officer prepares the farmer wise, survey number wise, Crop wise crop damages occurred due to natural calamity and submit proposals for release of input subsidy to the Government. The amount released as input subsidy is distributed to the affected farmers through online transfer to the bank accounts of the farmers.
